Career Opportunity

Under the general supervision of the CFO, Volunteers of America Southwest California Corporation, the Facilities Project Manager will assist in planning directing and coordinating activities of designated capital projects and remodeling improvement projects on all owned assets (buildings and vehicles) and occupied facilities.  Reviews project proposals, establishes work plan and interfaces with contractors and subcontractors to ensure project progresses on schedule and within budget. This position additionally serves as Safety Officer for corporation.



  • Assist in preparing construction schedules for new program sites from property location though occupancy including obtaining permits, licenses and facility vendor contracts for maintenance; as well as performing other start-up tasks as assigned.
  • Become thoroughly familiar with project drawings and specifications including general conditions, contracts and leases.
  • Assist on request for proposals and bid requests.
  • Thoroughly review and track all subcontractor and vendor submittals to verify compliance with contract documents.
  • Expedite as necessary material procurement and delivery and coordinate with other building management personnel.
  • Assist in the review and updating of cost reports and schedules
  • Review and verify payment applications by subcontracts and vendors for approval by CFO
  • Assist CFO in weekly progress meeting with all contractors or subcontractors as necessary and update CFO as needed.
  • Oversee the coordination process of primary subcontractors (mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, drywall/framing, etc.) Maintain a master list of qualified contractors.
  • Prioritize, submit and monitor Request for Information and Request for Proposals related to securing vendors/contractors.
  • Assist CFO in coordinating all aspects of Potential Change Orders, Change Proposal Requests and prepare cost report maintenance and subcontractor modifications after approval of Change Orders.
  • Maintain a current set of contract Documents including plans and RFIs.
  • Assist in monitoring of quality management and building inspections.
  • Assist in the project safety and accident prevention program.
  • Track subcontractor and vendor lien waivers and insurance certificate requirements.
  • Prepare miscellaneous reports as requested or required by government agencies.
  • Project a positive public and community image of VOA.
  • Adhere to all Volunteers of America's Policy and Procedures.



  • Three years of experience in servicing and or renovating commercial buildings and residential sites.
  • Technical qualifications in Commercial Facilities Maintenance and construction management.
  • Working knowledge and experience with building maintenance, inspections and commercial building codes and standards and safety.
  • Ability to solicit and manage all builds or projects for commercial buildings.
  • Familiar with building departments, permit processing and CUP's.
  • Ability to read plans as well as space management; including knowledge with planning and design layouts to meet square footage requirements as well as design aesthetics.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (i.e. Word, Excel, etc.).
  • Good Driving Record and ability to legally operate a vehicle in the state of California
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and possess strong problem solving abilities.
