CLASSIFICATION SUMMARY:

Under the general supervision of the Principal, the Instructional aide will be responsible for providing guidance to each assigned student where he/she can grow emotionally, socially, intellectually, and physically according to his or her basic needs, ability, and maturity level.  He or she works with the teacher to establish a wholesome learning environment and culture.  He or she works in partnership with the school community to ensure the highest level of educational achievement for each child.

 

REQUIRED CREDENTIALS, ABILITIES AND EXPERIENCE: 

  • Must pass background check for the state of California.
  • Must possess a valid CA Driver's License, automobile insurance and pass company underwriting for driving approval.
  • Must possess an AA degree in an education-related field or have classroom experience working with children.
  • Must be computer literate.
  • Must have excellent command of the English language - oral, written and business writing skills.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish highly desired.
  • Ability to develop and implement systems to increase productivity in the work place.
  • Must have in depth knowledge of Ballington's policy and procedures.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Adhere to Volunteers of America Policy and Procedures.
  • Create correspondence.
  • Provide assistance to the instructional program in school classrooms, resource specialist rooms, halls, and on playgrounds.
  • Tutor individual pupils or groups of pupils.
  • Arrange bulletin boards and other displays.
  • Supervise pupils in the classrooms or resource center in the absence of the classroom teacher.
  • Support behavior management program.
  • Prepare and assist in instructing of pupils in the use of a variety of supplementary instructional materials and audiovisual aids.
  • Oversee and perform cleanup activities.
  • Supervise pupils at assemblies and on field trips, in the lunch or play areas, halls, and grounds.
  • Maintain class rolls, attendance, and other records.
  • Contact parents to set up or confirm conferences and consultations.
  • Participate in staff development programs as directed.
  • Gather, compile, and prepare data for statistical and operational reports.
  • Coordinate and supervise pupil use of a learning center.
  • May train and direct pupil monitors
  • May accompany and provide instruction to pupils on buses while en route to and from school and during field trips.
  • Support student lunch distribution as needed.
  • Support playground supervision as needed.
  • Provide assistance in front office as needed.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
  • All other duties as assigned by supervisor.
