Job Summary

Volunteers of America Southwest is seeking an Events & Donor Relations Coordinator to join our Corporate Office in Mission Valley.

Responsibilities and Duties

Reporting to the Director of Mission Advancement and Communications, the Events & Donor Relations Coordinator provides both direct fund-raising and development support activities to sustain and enhance the institutional mission. Responsible for securing gifts in support of institutional priorities, from constituents including individuals, foundations, and corporations. This position will interact with donors, the public, our program staff and clients, vendors and venue management, as well as with Senior Management and the Board of Directors.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Qualifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding relationships with existing donors and potential new friends of the organization,
  • Developing and proposing strategies for solicitation of gifts 
  • Implementing cultivation touchpoint strategies
  • Coordinating activities of volunteers and volunteer auxiliaries
  • Planning and executing events, including the 19th Annual Celebrity Golf Tournament, managing event committee meetings, soliciting event sponsors, vendors and volunteers, and managing event budgets
  • Coordinate holiday, annual appeal and other outreach projects with Marketing Department
  • Coordinate CRM database management and prospect research with Development Associate
  • Implements strategies for engaging local businesses and corporations in support of Volunteers of America Southwest's fundraising efforts. Implements strategies for building relationships with and fundraising from service and community organizations.
  • Special Projects: Participantes in special projects, works as a member of interdepartmental teams to ensure the effective operation of the organization.
  • Other duties as assigned, dependent on organizational needs and employee skills.

 

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor's Degree required with 2-4 years non-profit development/fundraising and events experience.
  • Highest level of personal integrity and fiscal responsibility: Strong project management skills and demonstrated commitment to accountability, measuring outcomes and a results-oriented culture. Ability to plan and adhere to budgets/ understanding of financial management in a nonprofit setting.
  • Ability to make independent, well-reasoned decisions in the best interests of the organization for the present and future. Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse set of individuals. Excellent meeting facilitation skills. Holds oneself accountable to assigned responsibilities and goals.
  • Superior interpersonal, relationship-building, verbal and written communications skills. High energy, positive, "can-do" attitude, flexibility, and ability to facilitate teamwork; ability to handle sensitive and confidential situations including demonstration of poise, tact and diplomacy
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to prioritize and adjust to multiple demands. Demonstrated success in managing all aspects of small to medium size events (up to 300 attendees).
  • Cultural competency and sensitivity; knowledge of cultural and socioeconomic characteristics of clients served; Ability to read, write, analyze, and interpret policies, procedures, and regulations
  • Ability to work effectively and professionally with others including colleagues, and individuals inside and outside the agency
  • Ability to represent agency effectively in a variety of settings and demonstrate an appreciation for diversity
  • Experience with Sales or Fundraising database CRM preferred

Other Requirements:

  • Credit must be in good standing
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule as required to fulfill duties of position, including occasional evening or weekend events.
  • Must be able to work independently and exercise discretion; prioritize and execute multiple, competing tasks and demands, seeking supervisory assistance as appropriate.

Physical Demands:

The employee is regularly required to talk or hear.  The employee regularly is required to stand, walk, sit, use hand to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls, and reach with hands and arms.  The employee frequently lifts and or moves up to 30 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
