CLASSIFICATION SUMMARY:

Under the direct supervision of the Program Manager, the A&D Counselor will perform direct resident services as assigned by the Program Manager or Program Director.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

  1. Adhere to Volunteers of America's Operating and Program's Policies and Procedures.
  2. Follow all Safety Policies and Procedures and insure that residents and staff are safe at all times.
  3. Follow all Disaster Preparedness Procedures as outlined in the Mini-Disaster Program Manual.
  4. Ability to demonstrate a working knowledge of all State Licensing & Certification Standards and regulations.
  5. Ability to demonstrate a working knowledge of all contract(s) objectives, goals and required work ethics and practices.
  6. Gather resident information, complete intakes, discharges, ongoing forms and resident documentation accurately and in the required program time frames.
  7. Manage client medications, per guidelines established by all regulatory and funding entities. This includes recordkeeping/documentation of all medications brought into the facility, supervising clients while taking their medications and safeguarding the client's medications. Follow all program policies, procedures and protocols.
  8. Assist with the daily set-up and service of all meals for client's to include: breakfast, lunch, dinner and snack times.
  9. Daily 1x1 counseling with clients.
  10. Daily documentation in client's files of progress noted during the time services were provided.
  11. Facilitate groups on various treatment topics, including the 12-Step program model of recovery, as outlined in the programs Curriculum Manual.
  12. Data entry of applicable information in the organization's data management system.
  13. Provide transportation and the safety of residents for needed services as needed.
  14. Follow reporting requirements and mandatory timelines for reporting all incidents as they relate to clients, staff, etc.
  15. Maintain a good rapport, respect and communication with law enforcement or court officials, agency visitors, and community social service agencies.
  16. Participate in the cleaning, and maintenance of the facility and program equipment and furnishings.
  17. Perform other duties as assigned by the Program Supervisor, Treatment Services Coordinator or Program Director.

 REQUIRED CREDENTIALS, ABILITIES AND EXPERIENCE:

Registered with the California Consortium of Addiction Programs and Professionals (CCAPP) or with California Association of Addiction Recovery Resources (CAARR). The A& D Counselor must retain an active status for the duration of their employment and maintain a current certification, obtaining required CEU's per the guidelines of the certifying organization(s). Must be able to read, write and verbally communicate in the English language. Additional requirements include:

  1. Maintain a working knowledge of alcohol & drug treatment programs and dually diagnosed programs Federal client confidentiality regulations, specifically, CFR 42, PART 2 regulations and Health Insurance Portability and Accountability (HIPAA) confidentiality regulations, pertaining to policies and procedures.
  2. Maintain in-depth knowledge of treatment modalities for recovering alcoholics and drug addicts and dually diagnosed population.
  3. Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  4. Properly complete all program forms accurately, completely independently.
  5. Properly implement instructions and procedures.
  6. Convey respect, concern and understanding to clients, fellow employees and the public.
  7. Demonstrate good judgment, enhancing program effectiveness.
  8. Must have the ability to respond appropriately in case of program incidents or emergency medical situations.
  9. Must have the ability to document in writing all incidents that related to staff, residents or the facility, per program policy and procedure and within the required time frame. This includes the reporting and documentation of all serious incidents and unusual occurrences relating to both clients and staff.
  10. Must have basic computer skills in Windows, Microsoft Office programs including data entry ability.
  11. Must be flexible to meet scheduling demands.
  12. Must be free from formal Probation/Parole status for a minimum of one (1) year.
  13. Must have three (3) years continuous sobriety if recovering.
  14. Valid California Driver's License desired.
  15. Must obtain TB/UA prior to employment
  16. Physical (w/in 7 days) of employment.
  17. Must obtain CPR/1st Aide (w/in 3 months) of employment.
  18. Must attend Serious Incident and Unusual Occurrence Reporting Training within 30 days of hire.
  19. Must attend training on Client Confidentiality as it relates to CFR 42 and HIPAA regulations annually.
