Volunteers of America Southwest is a faith-based social service organization that works to turn around the lives of the most vulnerable in our community. Each year Volunteers of America Southwest transforms the lives of over 8,000 vulnerable individuals and families through over 20 unique programs in San Diego, San Bernardino, Riverside, and Imperial Counties.  Our skilled professionals and volunteers serve homeless veterans with disabilities, assist adults in addiction recovery, care for seniors and those suffering from mental health challenges, and serve children with unique educational needs. Through these programs and services, we transform lives from vulnerable to vibrant!

Job Opportunity:

Under the general supervision of the After School Safety/Education (ASES) Coordinator, with in input from the school Principal, ASES Tutor/Aides will be responsible for supporting and implementing the various facets of the ASES grant. The Tutor/Aide will provide supervision, behavior management, snacks, academic support, and enrichment activities for students in the After School Program.


  1. Adhere to Volunteers of America Policy and Procedures.
  2. Perform instructional support activities such as the presentation of lessons for students.
  3. Support students in the completion of their homework.
  4. Prepare instructional materials and lessons for general and special needs
  5. Organize and teach  learning  and enrichment activities   
  6. Organize and teach enrichment activities
  7. Assist students in using instructional materials and equipment
  8. Perform clerical activities such as maintaining and organizing student records, student materials
  9. Prepare student work areas
  10. Supervise students to ensure safety
  11. Improving student learning and social skills
  12. Provide a safe learning environment.
  13. Improve attendance for the after school program and regular instructional day.
  14. Develops and delivers effective lesson plans 
  15. Provide homework and tutoring assistance
  16. Engages children in stimulating enrichment activities
  17. Maintains classroom discipline
  18. Develops and maintains positive relationships with students, parents, teachers, ASES Coordinator and other ASES tutors.
  19. Maintains a clean and organized work environment.
  20. Coordinates with other ASES Tutors in planning,
  21. Assists with the supervision and distribution of snack
  22. Participates in staff training workshops
  23. Other duties as assigned


  1. Must pass background check for the state of California.
  2. Must possess a valid CA Driver's License, automobile insurance, and pass company underwriting for driving approval.
  3. Must possess a high school diploma
  4. Must be computer literate.
  5. Must be able to work well with children
  6. Ability to operate independently.
  7. Must possess organizational skills.
  8. Must have the ability to interact with staff, the public, parents, and students.
  9. Must have excellent command of the English language - oral, written and business writing skills.
