Job Opportunity:

The Elementary Charter School Vice Principal is responsible for the day to day management, supervision, and operation of the charter school.

Job Duties:

  • The Elementary Charter School Vice Principal serves as the chief administrative officer of the school in the absence of the Principal.
  • The Vice Principal assumes responsibilities from within the Principals job responsibilities as directed and supervised by the Principal.
  • The Vice Principal is responsible for the day to day management, supervision, and operation of the charter school.
  • This includes but is not limited to attendance, discipline, student activities, parent communication, staffing, buildings, and grounds. 

Curriculum and Instruction

  1. Supports the creation and implementation of the school vision, culture, and educational model. 
  2. Assists in planning, implementing, and evaluating the instructional programs, to include state and federal projects at the school site.
  3. Provide on site day to day leadership for staff and students.
  4. Demonstrates skill and knowledge in the design, implementation, and evaluation of the educational programs and activities to ensure academic success and improvement.
  5. Supervise the educational program and provide curriculum and instructional leadership at site level.
  6. Demonstrates depth of knowledge in curriculum frameworks, latest research based instructional methodology, and special education regulations on both the Federal and State levels.
  7. Initiate the use of new teaching methods and materials, initiate, encourage, and direct experimental and pilot programs of instruction. 
  8. Ability to retrieve, analyze, and sort data to make instructional decisions to improve student performance.
  9. Ability to synthesize student achievement data into reports that serve as graphical representations of progress.
  10. Comply with State Curriculum Standards.
  11. Ensures compliance with state/federal mandates as they relate to curriculum, instruction, special education, and special projects.
  12. Assists in the selection, evaluation, and procurement of instructional materials for the state/and or federal programs with the assistance of staff.
  13. Does an annual evaluation of current instructional program and makes recommendation for improvement. 
  14. Interpret regulations and develop timelines.
  15. Coordinate preparation of project evaluation and disseminate findings and recommendations.
  16. Support the development of pacing guides and art and science integration.

Personnel Management

  1. Supervises and evaluates staff assigned to site.
  2. Assist with the recruitment, selection, and assignment of staff for charter schools.
  3. Evaluate and develop strategies to address professional development needs of staff.
  4. Serve as a model and a coach for staff.
  5. Plans, organizes and conducts in service training for teachers and instructional assistants. 
  6. Observes the operation of classrooms and provide assistance to teachers and students in achieving educational goals.
  7. Coordinate the work of consultants and special education services. 

Pupil Management

  1. Supervise the safety and welfare of students.
  2. Direct disaster planning and preparedness
  3. Implement school regulations pertaining to discipline.
  4. Participate in the coordination of Individualized Educational Plans (IEPs) and other support services for students
  5. Assists with student activities.
  6. Coordinates the planning for the administration of assessments for students.

Administration and Operations

  1. Maintain records and submit reports as required, in a timely manner.
  2. In concert with the Principal, manage school budget.
  3. Responds to administrative requests in a timely fashion. This includes requests from funders and the corporation
  4. Oversees the administrative responsibility for the special education component. This includes the coordination and facilitation of meetings, consultants, electronic software, and compliance with timelines and deadlines.
  5. Coordinates and facilitates State wide testing.
  6. Coordinates and facilitates all State reporting requirements, program reports, districts reports, and web site reports. 
  7. Ensures facility inspections are facilitated and addresses all building issues related to regular facility inspections. 
  8. Willingness to work extra hours to meets demands of projects. 

School/Community Relations

  1. Establish and maintain good school community relations.
  2. Serve as the educational advisor.
  3. Spearhead relationship building with parents and community partners.
  4. Proactively resolve parental and community concerns.
  5. Assists with the planning and organizing of parent advisory committee meetings and parent education workshops. 
  6. Demonstrate effective oral and written skills in communicating with students, staff, community, the district, and Board of Directors.
  7. Demonstrate knowledge and consensus building in decision making processes.
  8. Serve as educational advisor to local parent student group.
  9. Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS
We welcome applicants who have completed the following: M.A. related field; Valid CA teaching credential (multiple subject or equivalent, Special Education credential desired); Administrator's Credential and Elementary School experience required. Specific experience coordinating state wide testing preferred.

  1. Administrator's credential preferred and appropriate clear teaching credential. 
  2. Three years experience in administration (2 years serving as a Vice Principal) and five years teaching experience in elementary schools or elementary Charter schools strongly desired. 
  3. In depth knowledge of project based instruction.
  4. Knowledge of common core curriculum standards, and research based teaching practices.
  5. Competency in human relations.
  6. Proficient in oral and written communication. 
  7. Knowledge and experience with English Language Development.
  8. Ability to work well with people: broad grasp of educational planning, curriculum, and assessment development.
  9. Demonstrated proficiency in the use of MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook and Power Point).
  10. Knowledge in special education.
