Ballington Academy for the Arts & Sciences was named after one of the founders of Volunteers of America, Ballington Booth. Ballington Academy shares the legacy of progressiveness and social change through community service and educational betterment.

Ballington Academy is a project-based learning environment. Our programs are aligned with the Common Core Curriculum and tailored to your child's individual needs. We have two campuses: one in San Bernardino, CA and one in El Centro, CA.

We are looking for one Substitute Teacher for our El Centro campus. Your duties will include assigning homework, managing classroom activities, and compiling reports. This position starts at $130/day. This will be a long-term position.

A Day in the Life of a Substitute Teacher

As a Substitute Teacher, you will be working with our students, helping teachers with lesson and activity plans, as well as organizing and teaching learning and enrichment activities. You'll assign and explain homework to our students. You will follow the lesson plan and goals. You'll be responsible for taking attendance and documenting notes. You will compile a report for the teacher when they return. You'll supervise students, ensuring a safe and productive learning environment.

You'll put your people skills to work, engaging and developing positive relationships with students, parents, teachers, and other staff. 

You love chatting with people on in-person and can make personal connections easily, ensuring that every student feels valued. You'll make sure that the classroom stays clean and organized. There will be times where you'll attend in staff training workshops.

It will be a challenging day, but you will go home knowing you helped transform children's lives!



  • Valid Multiple Subjects Teaching Credential required.
  • Bachelor's Degree in related field of higher
  • Computer proficiency in MS Office Suite
  • Able to successfully pass fingerprints, criminal investigation screening, and health screenings
  • Must have valid driver's license, insurance, and reliable transportation.
  • Excellent communication skills in English oral, written and business writing skills
  • CLAD/BCLAD is a plus
  • 1+ year of teaching experience
  • Able to work well with children
  • People person
  • Able to work independently
  • Has strong organizational skills
